Blackhawk Upper Control Arm – Fixed

Blackhawk Hall: Hall 1: Exhibition Pavilion Stand: EP409

Blackhawk 4x4 has identified a growing demand for high-performance replacement Upper Control Arms (UCAs) tailored for a wide range of late-model Independent Front Suspension (IFS) vehicles. In response, we’ve developed the Blackhawk UCA Program—a bolt-in solution offering substantial improvements over OE (Original Equipment) designs.

Why Upgrade to Blackhawk UCAs?

When a vehicle is fitted with raised suspension (typically 30mm or more), the factory geometry is disrupted, leading to various handling and performance issues:

  • Reduced Caster Correction – causes vague steering and delayed response.

  • Bump Steer – leads to unpredictable handling and reduced control.

  • Suspension and Tyre Clearance Issues – OE UCAs may interfere with larger wheels or suspension components.

  • Full Droop Interference – in some vehicles, the OE UCA can contact the coil spring.

  • Limited Off-road Strength – OE components may not withstand demanding off-road conditions.

The Evolution of the Blackhawk UCA

Developed by Roadsafe 4WD, with over 30 years’ experience in manufacturing suspension and steering components, Blackhawk UCAs address the shortcomings of factory arms with a comprehensive list of performance-driven features.

Key Features & Benefits

Fixed Caster Correction

  • Pre-set for lifts between 30–70mm.

  • Allows use of factory adjustment for fine-tuning.

  • UCAs are no longer a limiting factor for increased droop.

Camber Adjustability

  • OE-spec camber provided as standard.

  • Optional offset bushings available for applications requiring increased camber.

Improved Clearance

  • Optimized design allows clearance for:

    • Larger aftermarket wheels and tyres.

    • Suspension components and chassis during full suspension travel.

Fixed Position Ball Joint

  • Non-adjustable, OE-spec ball joint offers:

    • Increased strength and durability in off-road conditions.

    • Prevention of ball joint movement under load.

    • No need for realignment once set.

Enhanced Down Travel

  • Ball joint housings rotated to maximize travel.

  • Eliminates ball joint binding issues common in OE designs.

Serviceability & Compatibility

  • OE-spec ball joints and bushings used throughout.

  • Replacement parts are readily available—even in remote areas.

 ABS Line Integration

  • Mounting tabs included where practical to securely route OE ABS lines and avoid damage from debris.

  • 8. Superior Strength and Handling

  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA) testing confirms:

    • 3× stiffer than OE arms.

    • Improved handling and reduced deflection.

  • Increased rigidity does not affect ride comfort due to retained OE rubber bushings.

  • Redesigned in a "hard-to-hard" format with:

    • Nylon disc locators

    • Greaseable assembly

    • Heat-treated ball studs and seat areas for long-lasting performance.

Sealed Protection

  • Anodized machined alloy dust cap with engraved Blackhawk logo protects against:

    • Water

    • Dust

    • Mud

    • Corrosion

Durable Finish

  • E-coated black for durability and a discreet appearance.

  • Same process used by OE manufacturers.

 Heavy-Duty, Long-Life Ball Joints

  • Redesigned in a "hard-to-hard" format with:

    • Nylon disc locators

    • Greaseable assembly

    • Heat-treated ball studs and seat areas for long-lasting performance.

Sealed Protection

  • Anodized machined alloy dust cap with engraved Blackhawk logo protects against:

    • Water

    • Dust

    • Mud

    • Corrosion

Durable Finish

  • E-coated black for durability and a discreet appearance.

  • Same process used by OE manufacturers.

Engineering and Quality Assurance

OEM and Blackhawk UCAs were computer-modeled and FEA tested under static, bump, and lateral loads.

VASS Engineers independently confirmed:

  • Sound design

  • Superior strength and function compared to OE arms

Manufacturing QA Procedures Include:

  • Certified welding specifications and material standards

  • Routine inspection of manufacturing jigs

  • Randomized post-production QC checks

  • Certified to ISO/TS16949:2009

  • IATF Certification No. 0224504 – Manufacturing of steering and suspension components
