Rick O'Brien's Top Tracks

  1. The Climies track – Tasmania
Tassie is home to some seriously epic tracks, but the Climies is it for me! Rocks, mud, water, ruts, hills and those views out to sea are just the icing on a very tasty cake! Take me back!
  2. The French Line – South Australia
I reckon the French Line and the Simpson Desert should be on everyone’s off-road bucket list – it is a truly mesmerising place. The French Line will take you through the heart of the Simmo across in excess of 1,200 sand dunes, and every one of them is a ton of fun.
  3. The Old Telegraph Track – Queensland
The Old Tele Track is an absolute adventure from start to finish, and it is without doubt the most enjoyable way to head to the northern-most point of the Australian mainland. With everything from sandy creeks to rocky creeks to deep creeks to shallow creeks, and a few hundred kilometres of wicked track in between, it really is a must-do!
  4. The Birdsville Track – South Australia
The Birdsville Track is perhaps the quintessential outback highway, with sweeping views across the plains, amazing experiences such as Sturt’s Stony Desert and the infamous Mangarannie Hotel, it’s another track that I can’t wait to hit again!
  5. The Strezlecki Track – South Australia
The mighty Strez can be a hard beast at times. It sees a lot of road trains and heavy loads which can create some of the fiercest corrugations known to man, but it’s these trying conditions that make the experience that much more rewarding once you finally make it into Lyndhurst for a well-earned beer at the pub!
